Choosing the Right Paving Contractor Matters

A driveway can look great when it’s first paved, but what’s underneath and how it was installed play a big part in how well it holds up over time. Proper preparation, grading, materials, and installation all make a difference.

Before Choosing a Paving Contractor, Ask:

• What type of base material will be used, and how thick will the base be?

• How thick will the asphalt be after compaction, and why is that thickness appropriate for the property?

• How will the driveway be pitched to direct water runoff and help prevent pooling or puddles?

The answers to these questions can tell you a lot about how the driveway will be built, not just how it will look when the job is finished.

For an existing driveway, simply paving over the old surface isn’t always the best long-term solution. Cracks, uneven areas, and movement underneath can eventually show through the new asphalt. Removing the old asphalt allows the base underneath to be evaluated, properly prepared, graded, and compacted before new asphalt is installed.
